How an Idea Can Make a Huge Impact

Cayla Lempkin, a Freshman at West Windsor – Plainsboro High School South, was determined to help food insecure children who would not receive breakfast and lunch daily due to school closures during the COVID-19 Pandemic. With a solid plan, Cayla launched a food drive in her neighborhood, asking people to leave a bag of nonperishables on their doorstep or to make a donation on Facebook.  Two days later, Cayla collected 261 pounds of food and $525.00 in donations.  This outpouring of generosity has helped Mercer Street Friends underwrite the cost of over 1,000 emergency food bags on a weekly basis to children and families in Trenton. Thank you, Cayla and to all who donated!

To join Cayla and many others in providing emergency food bags throughout the County, you may make a gift by visiting www.mercerstreetfriends.org and click “Donate Now.”  If you’d like to volunteer at our Food Bank warehouse, please call Sherries Anderson at 609-278-5546 or email her at sanderson@mercerstreetfriends.org.
