The Community Work Experience Program/Education Directly Related to Employment Program (CWEP/EDRTE) assists adults receiving public assistance under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) to enhance and improve their job readiness skills.

Core activities are aimed at reducing barriers
to self-sufficiency and employability.

Participants are referred to the program by the Mercer County Board of Social Services. Upon entering the program, each participant is evaluated for employability and guided through the process of identifying vocational interests, strengths and potential barriers to employment. Based on individual case plans, participants may receive reading, writing and math instruction; computer training; job preparedness and search assistance.

While attending the 16-week program, participants are assigned to nonpaid internships within Mercer Street Friends in order to gain work experience in various potential career paths.
