Mercer Street Friends announced today that Ms. Courtney Matlock has joined the organization as Chief Development and Marketing Officer (CDMO). As the new CDMO, Ms. Matlock will focus on expanding donor audiences, generating new sources of funding, and increasing awareness of Mercer Street Friends’ important work in the community. Ms. Matlock reports directly to Bernie Flynn, Chief Executive Officer.

“We are thrilled to welcome Courtney to the team. She is an accomplished leader with a passion for service and our Mission. Courtney started on August 1st and hit the ground running” commented Mr. Flynn.
Prior to joining Mercer Street Friends, Ms. Matlock served as Senior Director of Development for United Way of Greater Mercer County where she led the organization in diversifying its funding and played a pivotal role in expanding nutrition and higher education resources for low- and moderate-income families. Under her leadership, United Way of Greater Mercer County’s Strike Out Hunger event expanded beyond providing nutrition during summer months to a year-long effort to also make fresh produce readily available. A community organizer, Ms. Matlock plays a key role in building strategic partnerships across Mercer County; expanding access to social service, financial and education resources for local households.
“Mercer Street Friends is so much more than a food bank. I’m excited to join a team that’s leading the charge to build the Community Schools model in New Jersey. I look forward to advancing its commitment to making sure students, families, and educators have access to community resources needed, including food, to not merely show up, but thrive.”
Board President Ken Blackwell adds, “Mercer Street Friends is dedicated to nourishing minds and bodies and empowering families and communities. We feel that Courtney’s executive skills and leadership experience will be a tremendous asset to our organization and those we serve.”
In addition to fundraising, Ms. Matlock’s professional portfolio includes volunteer development, Higher Ed admissions, and a corporate career in marketing and strategic forecasting. She holds an MBA in International Business from Schiller International University, Paris, France and a BA in Economics from Rutgers, New Brunswick. Ms. Matlock currently serves on the board of Trinity Counseling Services and on the advisory committees of HiTops and WorkWell.
