We are having so much fun this summer at our Summer Bridge programs!
As an extension of our Community Schools Initiative, Summer Bridge provides over 200 Trenton School District students (Kindergarten through 8th grade) academic instruction, enrichment activities, and field trips.
Last week, students at Luis Muñoz-Rivera Elementary School and Benjamin C. Gregory Elementary School had a special visit from Trenton Thunder mascot Boomer and his sidekick Cloudman for the enrichment portion of their day. When the mascots appeared on stage in the auditorium, Boomer was not the only thing that sounded like thunder! Students were beyond excited and voiced their enthusiasm.
Boomer and Cloudman made a baseball tale come to life for students, acting out the scenes as the story was read aloud. After story time, it wasbaseball triviaon deck (Did you know baseball has a total of 27 outs? Some of our students did!), followed by a Q&A session and a chance to take a picture with the mascots. Some students even got to show off their super strength with some rocking fist bumps and hugs.
After saying goodbye to our special guests, students headed to their classrooms to start their daily enrichment. From drama to science, through Mercer Street Friends Summer Bridge Program, the students from Trenton are exposed to a variety of disciplines in order to grow and challenge their minds. Whether it is building model roller coasters, drawing pictures or even showing off their best dance moves, students are able to express themselves while earning a quality education.
Our teachers care about students’ wellbeing and want each to reach their full potential. Learning doesn’t end when the last school bell rings in June, it just opens the door for a different type of learning that keeps children engaged.
