What a summer! Mercer Street Friends welcomed nearly 200 children at our Preschool, Gregory Elementary School, and Rivera Community Middle School Summer Program!
Our youngest students in Preschool learned to write their names and how to count, while enjoying a new experience that provided routine and structure in the classrooms.
For our elementary and middle school students, days were spent learning new reading and math skills, while fine tuning what students learned over the past 17 months when Trenton schools were virtual.
Students had their fill of yoga, cooking, swimming, gardening, and sports! Field trips were saved for Friday’s, where they traveled to Liberty Science Center and the Philadelphia Zoo. Gregory School students closed out their summer program with a trip to Fun Plex. Students from Rivera visited Princeton Blairstown Retreat where they took advantage of an outdoor setting, focusing on trust, leadership and cooperation activities.
Bernadette Trapp, Director of Community Schools, noted, “Seeing students engaged in learning and having fun after the difficult 17 months we just had, does a heart good!!!”
We remain grateful to all our benefactors for making these programs possible. Thank you to our teachers, counselors, and junior counselors for their great work with our students.
It was a summer to remember!
