Addressing the Federal Budget Reconciliation Bill

A Message From Bernie Flynn

Dear Friend,

With the passage of the federal reconciliation bill earlier this month, access to food and healthcare will become even more difficult for those we serve. In every corner of Mercer County, families, children, senior citizens, veterans, and individuals with disabilities will feel the impact of this bill.

Mercer Street Friends has supported our neighbors for over 60 years, and our Food Bank has been the center of food distribution for four decades. But in the past few years, we and our over 100 pantry partners have witnessed an alarming increase in food insecurity in Trenton and throughout Mercer County. Nearly 50,000 children and adults in our county experience hunger. And nearly 20% of Mercer County residents receive Medicaid support. Now, they are at risk of losing these basic human needs.

Mercer Street Friends will do our best to help fill the void. When facing a challenge like this, we hold tight to our founding values: That every person has the right to a just, prosperous, and peaceful society. We will continue to respond to the needs of the community, building alliances that have meaningful impact while delivering support to those facing economic hardships.

These values have never been more important, and we reaffirm them today and every day.

Thank you for your own commitment to our community and for joining us in advocating for our neighbors in need.

Sincerely,

Bernie Flynn, CEO
