Building Stronger Families, One Step at a Time

Celebrating Our Parenting Program Graduates

Every graduation marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. For the families graduating from Mercer Street Friends’ parenting programs, it’s an opportunity to celebrate how far they’ve come and the knowledge, skills, and confidence they’ll carry forward.

Mercer Street Friends was thrilled to host a graduation ceremony honoring families who completed our Parents as Teachers and Healthy Families programs over the past six to 12 months. Through these programs, parents and caregivers receive personalized guidance and support as they navigate the early years of parenting and create nurturing environments where their children can learn, grow, and thrive.

Both programs meet families where they are, offering resources tailored to their needs:

  • Healthy Families: Provides free, weekly home visits with a certified Family Support Worker, offering child development education, wellness screenings, stress management tools, and personalized guidance to support family well-being and healthy child development.
  • Parents as Teachers: Offers trauma-informed support focused on strengthening parent-child interactions, promoting development-centered parenting, and helping families create safe, nurturing environments where children can grow, thrive, and be ready to learn.

The graduation celebration recognized the commitment families made throughout their time in these programs and the relationships they built with their home visitors along the way. The afternoon was filled with smiles, hugs, and joyful moments as graduates donned caps and gowns and received graduation stoles customized with their program names to keep as mementos.

Each parent and child was recognized by name and presented with a graduation certificate. Program supervisors shared remarks celebrating the families’ accomplishments, and participants from both programs took the stage for musical performances. The festivities even turned into a dance party for some graduates! The afternoon wrapped up with a light dinner and cake, giving families, home visitors, and program supervisors time to connect and celebrate together.

The celebration took place at The 222: Community Market and Resource Hub, Mercer Street Friends’ newest resource for Trenton’s West Ward. The 222 houses a choice pantry offering fresh and shelf-stable food, personal and household essentials as available, and connections to community resources. By bringing essential resources together in one place, The 222 reflects MSF’s commitment to building a stronger, healthier community through food, family, and education.

It was a fitting place to celebrate these families and recognize the importance of ensuring parents and children have the resources and support they need to thrive. Mercer Street Friends is proud to have been part of the graduates’ journeys and remains committed to empowering families and building stronger communities.
