Mercer Street Friends Featured in BINJE
Mercer Street Friends was recently featured in BINJE following the nonprofit hosting Senator Shirley K. Turner at Cadwalader Elementary School in Trenton on Wednesday, March 11. The event celebrated the Senator’s role in securing a $2 million state grant to support the expansion of three new community schools across Mercer County in Trenton, Hamilton, and Ewing. This investment doubled the number of community schools for which Mercer Street Friends serves as the lead agency.
During the visit, Senator Turner read The Little Engine That Could to students, who then read passages back to her. The moment highlighted the impact of community schools and programs like Mercer Street Friends’ Reading Intervention Program in strengthening literacy skills and supporting students’ educational development.
