Mercer Street Friends Receives 31,500-Pound Food Donation
Mercer Street Friends Receives Full Truckload of Food Through America250 Initiative
Mercer Street Friends was honored to receive a generous donation of a full truckload of ready-to-distribute food from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as part of the America250 initiative, commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary through the delivery of 250 truckloads of food to communities across the United States.
Weighing more than 31,500 pounds, the donation is one of the largest single-day contributions received by Mercer Street Friends this year and will provide the equivalent of more than 26,000 meals for neighbors across Mercer County. The food will help support the organization’s Community Food Bag program, network of food pantries, and other initiatives that provide nutritious food to local families experiencing food insecurity.
The day also included a hands-on volunteer effort, with Church leaders, volunteers and youth missionaries joining the Mercer Street Friends team to learn more about the organization’s mission and help pack food bags for distribution throughout the community.
“Mercer Street Friends is thrilled to welcome a significant donation to our food bank from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The gift of a full truckload of ready to distribute food, in recognition of our country’s 250th anniversary of signing the Declaration of Independence, is a part of the America250 effort, and the timing of the delivery could not be more opportune as we see the urgent need for food rising daily amongst our neighbors. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has committed to delivering 250 truckloads of contributed food across the United States and Mercer Street Friends is truly grateful to be a recipient of their generosity. We applaud their spirit of volunteerism and thank Church leadership for supporting Mercer Street Friends, our neighbors, and all organizations throughout America, particularly at such a pivotal moment in time.”
