As the holiday season approaches, we are reminded that hunger is persistent and pervasive – in Mercer County, throughout New Jersey, in every corner of our nation, and across the globe.
Mercer Street Friends, the food bank of Mercer County, sees our neighbors stand in line, awaiting a food bag for the week. We hear stories from students about their hunger over the weekend, when they don’t receive free and reduced breakfast and lunch at school. We learn of families who agonize over trying to secure nutritious food for their children and themselves, when they can barely afford the energy bill or rent payment. And we listen to our 100+ pantry partners as they tell stories of growing food insecurity, no matter what is reflected in the stock market.
“We give food out weekly – and we can’t give it out quickly enough. The moment our doors open, people are asking for support.”
—Yvette Randolph, Mother Estelle Clark Food Pantry, Trentonand Mercer Street Friends Board of Trustees Member
Our work is driven by the deep gratitude we have for our volunteers and donors, who ensure our mission of nourishing minds and bodies; empowering families and communities continues. Thanks to our long-time contributors and to those who have just joined in investing in our work, food insecurity is being addressed – every day.
We invite you to join our friends and our neighbors in making a gift to Mercer Street Friends today. Your gift enables our work in the community to continue. And it sends a message to those who are hungry – “we hear your request for help and we will respond” – every day.
Happy Thanksgiving and thank you,
Mercer Street Friends
