The Summer Program is in full swing!
Excitement was in the air as B.C. Gregory Elementary School students took a field trip to the Franklin Institute! For many of them, it was their first time visiting Philadelphia.
Students were eager to explore the Harry Potter exhibit, where they got a close-up look at authentic props and original costumes from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films as they engaged with innovative, awe-inspiring, and magical environments and installations.
Director Glynis Spencer stated that “this trip to Franklin Institute is a complementary addition to time in the classroom to further develop skills introduced to them during S.T.E.A.M. instruction at the Mercer Street Friends Summer Bridge Program.” The students also had the opportunity to explore other exhibits such as the Amazing Machines, The Giant Heart, Electricity, and Your Brain.
Trenton Thunder Baseball mascot and three players also paid the B.C. Gregory Elementary and Rivera Community Elementary School students a visit.
Following time listening to Boomer’s favorite stories – Boomer at the Bat and Fine Feathered Friends – students enjoyed learning more about the Trenton Thunder baseball team! Encouraging reading during the summer, Boomer challenged students to read 5 books this summer. All students who accomplish this will receive a free ticket to a Trenton Thunder game!
Students were left with thought – “to be great at baseball or anything you would like to do, the most important thing is discipline.”
Our students had a wonderful week!
